Screenings will be happening Semester 1!

Screenings are happening five times a week in this semester. Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays are having screenings from 1 pm - 2 pm while Tuesdays are having them from 12 pm - 2 pm. Come on whichever days your timetable allows and choose from a wide range of shows to follow along with us!

If you can't find the library just inside the screening room it may not be available that day - we try and make sure it's at every screening, but sometimes it's just not possible. If you'd like to check if it'll be available at a specific day, please email [email protected].

A map of the screening locations can be found here.

If you're still (understandably) lost trying to find the screening room, we recommend using this site (they have a handy smartphone app too).

Monday - Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu -Sukeroku Futatabi-hen-

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu -Sukeroku Futatabi-hen-

Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu -Descending Stories-, The Art of Storytelling's Fatal Punchline Lands Once Again

Drama A Second Time, Storytelling A Second Time, Rakugo A Second Time, Literally a Work of Art Once Again, 2017

Next Screening: Monday, 1 May 2017
Time: 1:00PM - 2:00PM
Episode(s): 3 - 5

Place: Doug McDonnell-113

Following much the same path as its predecessor, Sukeroku Futatabi-hen is a fantastic story about rakugo and how it affects not only one storyteller’s entire being, but how his experiences shape the lives of those around him. The story takes place shortly after the last season of Rakugo, where Yotaro is serving as Yakumo’s apprentice, and focuses somewhat more on him. As for the rakugo, the rakugo in this season may be much more accessible to the general English audience, so if it didn’t quite click last time, it probably will this time. We appreciate your continued support.

Place: Old Geology-B25 (Theatre 2)

Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis

Shingeki no Bahamut: Genesis

Rage of Bahamut: Genesis

Budget, Good Adaptations, Fantasy, Adventure, 2014

Next Screening: Tuesday, 2 May 2017
Time: 12:00PM - 1:00PM
Episode(s): 3 - 5.5

Shingeki no Bahamut looks and sounds fantastic, every episode pulls you along for the ride with the main characters, suffering from none of the pitfalls that game adaptations often fall prey to, the anime is very hard to fault and demonstrates exactly how much Studio Mappa is capable of. We hope to see you at the screening when we BAHALIMAX.

Non Non Biyori Repeat

Non Non Biyori Repeat

Slice of Life, Comedy, Nostalgia, Nyanpasu!, 2015

Next Screening: Tuesday, 2 May 2017
Time: 1:00PM - 2:00PM
Episode(s): 3 - 5.5

Non Non Biyori takes the slice of life genre to an absolute high point, painting a wonderfully enjoyable picture of life in the country. The show exhibits extremely beautifully executed scenes which are often cute, comedic, nostalgic, triumphant, or even very emotional, and mixes of all the above. It’s a must watch if you’ve ever lived in a country area and still just as good even if you haven’t. So come along and enjoy the fun. What’s that? This description sounds exactly like the first season? Well, that’s because I’m laz-, there’s good news, it’s not just the first season repeated again, Non Non Biyori Repeat takes place during a similar period of time to the first season (the first episode is before the first season’s first episode and the final episode takes place shortly after the final episode of the first season) but the content is new.

Wednesday - Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun

Me_irl, Romance, Studying, High School, 2012

Next Screening: Wednesday, 3 May 2017
Time: 1:00PM - 2:00PM
Episode(s): 5 - 7

Place: Old Arts-103 (Theatre A)

Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun follows Mizutani Shizuku, whose focus is entirely on doing well in school. She is made to deliver some class materials to the student who should sit next to her in class but has been absent. The story is a lot of fun and every characters is interesting. The story also doesn’t follow the regular romance anime pattern, so don’t worry about it being a regular old basic romance.

Thursday - Macross Frontier

Macross Frontier

Mecha, Romance, Idol, Space Opera, Action, Drama, War, Sci-Fi, 2007

Next Screening: Thursday, 27 April 2017
Time: 1:00PM - 2:00PM
Episode(s): 15 - 16

Place: Sidney Myer Asia Centre-G01

Macross Frontier is a mecha show which may never show its age, managing to pull off mecha, some romance elements, idols and sci-fi to heights which even shows dedicated to these aspects rarely reach. It is often considered to have the best love triangle within a mecha show, the best mecha fights featured in any idol show and some of the most popular idol songs out of any romance drama show… seems legit

Friday - Kara no Kyoukai

Kara no Kyoukai

The Garden of Sinners

Action, Thriller, Supernatural, Mystery, 2007

Next Screening: Friday, 28 April 2017
Time: 1:00PM - 2:00PM
Episode(s): 7

Place: Redmond Barry-103 (Lowe Theatre)

2017, the year of Fate, what better way to celebrate it than to screen something that is… not Fate… ? Kara no Kyoukai chronicles the life of Ryougi Shiki, a girl possessing the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception, and her dealings with the various paranormal events that occur around her. Penned by Nasu Kinoko before his creation of the Fate series, the story is set in a part of the larger universe that also encompasses both the Fate series and the Tsukihime series known as the ‘Nasuverse’ and shares multiple setting and concepts as well. A must watch for fans of Nasu Kinoko’s extensive yet meticulous worldview and rest assured that this show will not have any whiny teenager sprouting quotes such as ‘People die if they are …...’ NOTE: We are screening the movie series, and not the anime. As such, the 'episode number' will not actually correspond with our current progress. If you miss a week or wish to join us midway through the screening, please send an email to [email protected], and we'd be happy to let you know where we are!
